Transform your ability to resolve trauma and chronic stress
Make sure that you thoroughly read the pre-requisites below before you apply to join the SE™ Professional Training.
The Somatic Experiencing® Training Program is a continuing education certificate, designed to train professionals in working more effectively with client trauma. It is not designed as a standalone training for those just entering the helping professions, and it is not suitable for those solely seeking personal growth or healing. It is essential that individuals looking to register into a Somatic Experiencing® Professional Training Program are certified, licensed and/or registered with a professional association and have current professional indemnity insurance. Individuals must have an ongoing client base during the entirety of the training program, to support the application and integration of the course teachings. Some exceptions maybe granted for professionals in related fields.
Applicants are required to be a member of a professional and regulatory body with a code of practice and disciplinary procedure or to be in the process of attaining this at either a student or practitioner level.
Professionals who may qualify for the SE™ Professional Training program are:
Mental Health Professionals: psychologists, psychiatrists, psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, expressive arts therapists, etc.
Medical and Alternative Medicine Professionals: medical doctors, nurses, and nurse practitioners, Rongoa Māori practitioners, occupational therapists, physical therapists, chiropractors, emergency medical workers, surgeons, obstetricians, midwives, acupuncturists, naturopathic doctors, etc.
Bodyworkers: massage therapists, Rolfers®, Craniosacral and Polarity therapists, Mirimiri and Romiromi practitioners, Feldenkrais practitioners, yoga therapists, etc.
Others: first responders, crisis center staff, educators, mediators, clergy, chaplains, coaches, etc.
Applicants who do not have practitioner status maybe accepted depending on their individual circumstances.
Acceptance into the SE™ Professional Training does not ensure that all SE™ methods will be appropriate for inclusion in your professional practice. Training participants are responsible for operating within their professional scope of practice and for abiding by applicable laws.
If you have any concerns or queries regarding the suitability of the training for you, please contact us on connect@humaniteam.nz
The SE™ International Organiser for Aotearoa New Zealand reserves the right to approve or deny any application, and/or accept or reject the participation of any person in their sole discretion and in accordance with our policies and the law.
The SE™ community is a home for all those who hold an expansive view of the human potential for healing and resilience. We’re changing lives with SE™. And we’re doing it together, as a community. We hope you'll join us!
Once the application process opens on 1 February 2026, you will need to be able to demonstrate these pre-requisites, as well as submit your updated CV.
The training is designed to train professionals in helping clients deal with trauma or high anxiety states versus being a personal self-help course. However, due to the depth of the work and the practical nature of the training, we do advise participants that personal traumas may be triggered during the training, thus the experience may also become an integrative process for your own personal development. Personal SE™ sessions from the SEP assistants are available during the training week but further outside support may be required between modules.
Before the training starts, we recommend you receive at least three SE™ sessions. You can find a qualified practitioner via the Somatic Experiencing® Community in Aotearoa New Zealand or via the Somatic Experiencing® International website
